Telfair Museums' decorative arts collections include a significant amount of furniture, most of which is American or British and dates to the 19th century. They range from curly maple recamiers and other formal furnishings that the Telfair family commissioned while in Philadelphia, to relatively simple ladderback chairs and trestle tables made for informal spaces often associated with enslaved labor. Much of this furniture is on view at the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters and in period rooms at the Telfair Academy.
