The Reverend Howard Finster is perhaps the most widely known and prolific American self-taught artist of the twentieth century, who produced over 46,000 works. Among the Georgia artist’s signature images are robed flying angels which appear in great numbers in his paintings and vision boxes. Angels also appeared as solo cutout figures such as this colorful example from the early 1980s.
