In her work, Rodriguez seeks to dismantle codified beliefs, hierarchies, and symbols. She states: “I make work that deconstructs my visual vocabulary. … I have always been interested in the paradoxical, creating a space where images are not necessarily fixed.”
This piece was part of a broader series in which Rodríguez manipulated photographs of her works on a computer and used fragments from those digital sketches as starting points for her paintings. In Parallel Worlds I, Rodriguez abstracts the shape of a lily as part of a broader quest to dismantle the negative conno-tations that have traditionally tied flower paintings to the realms of femininity and female artists.
