Hall served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and later studied Art at Armstrong State College, (now University). While living in Savannah during the 1980s, Hall carved a sculpture of a cat over 6 feet in height attracting the attention of other woodcarvers and the public. Hall continued his woodcarving in his spare time while working for International Paper.
