Stitt The organization is operative all year round Employees are chosen from all over the country by the Civil Service Commission. The Grand Canyon National Park was established as a game preserve by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. In 1908 President Roosevelt changed it to a National Monument. President Wilson established it as a National Park through an Act of Congress on August 25, 1916. The area was set aside for the conservation of the natural resources of the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River. The organization is financially sustained by federal appropriations. The Grand Canyon is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Approximately 3 million visitors come to the park each year. The National Park Service Ranger Academy is located at the Grand Canyon. Other activities include public safety, visitor activities, maintenance and administration programs.
