On 20 May 1841 he married Adelaide Barr Garcia. Jacob Hollowbush was listed in the Philadelphia City Directories from 1847 as a bookseller and stationer with a 1865 business Hollowbush & Carey at 218 Market St. and in 1880 is listed in his name only as also being in the notions trade at 423 Market St. According to his tax records and his Will, he was a prosperous merchant. Census records show their household as having 3 servants living with them.
Jacob and Adelaide had 2 children: Kate A. (1851- 9 July 1861) who died age 11 and whose portrait also resides in Telfair’s collection, and Frank G. (7 May 1854- 1931). Frank G. had a son Frank A. (25 Feb 1887- 18 May 1965) whose wife Gertrude West Hollowbush (20 Jun 1891-12 Jan 1988) donated the 3 portraits to the Telfair museum.
