It hangs supported by four arms and a ring frame enclosing a glass drip-pan and ornamented with foliage and glass pendants.
The chandelier is original to the Telfair house, and thought to have always hung in the Oak Room, now called the Octagon Room. Originally fitted to burn oil, the chandelier has been retrofitted at least twice, once for gas and once for electricity. The original oil lamp would have put out insufficient light to illuminate an entire room, as it does today. Candles or oil lamps would be used to provide supplemental lighting.
