Known for her conceptual photography and multimedia installations, Simpson often uses disembodied features to evoke questions surrounding identity and stereotypes, particularly relating to African American hair. As shown in this work, she frequently combines text with her photographs to further investigate and prod perceptions surrounding how identity is constructed.
