They were also called muffineers for their use sugaring muffin-tops. As with this one, they usually have a removable pierced top. This castor is especially elaborate, featuring gadrooning, or convex curves, around the curved bottom, and fluting, or concave curves, around the center, as well as lightly engraved scrollwork throughout. It was made by the Fenton Brothers, who were silversmiths and platers manufacturing silver goods in Sheffield and London, England throughout the second half of the 19th century.
