Realism is the accurate representation of a subject matter in art that attempts to be truthful to real life. Fairfield Porter experimented with realist painting and applied this experimentation to his printmaking as well. Dog at the Door presents an alert dog, waiting patiently at the door of his owner’s house. The skillful application of the varied tones of white lend an overall sense of calm to the narrative composition.
