They were made in the shop of Savannah silversmith William Sime, who was active in the city from 1768 to 1778. Little is known about Sime’s early life and career. Initially a partner in Sime and Moses, by 1769 he was working independently. He advertised “mourning rings, mounting and repairing swords, and jewelry made and mended” in local newspapers. Later, the business was in the name of Wright and Sime. In 1774 he was again working alone and advertised that he had gotten some ‘proper workmen.’ Sime was among those who signed the resolutions of loyalty to the crown on September 7, 1774. By 1778, he was judged guilty of high treason by the revolutionaries and if captured could have been put to death. Instead, he left the state and forfeited his property.
