It combines features taken from ancient Greek furniture, such as the smooth, curving saber legs and slightly curved back of a klismos chair, with elaborate carved scrollwork. The slip seat was recently reupholstered in modern faux silk in 2022 as part of the installation of the Boys’ Bed Chamber at the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters. Silk was a typical upholstery fabric offered by furniture makers during this period.
