After Melchers’ departure, committees of volunteers managed Telfair’s collection, and they drew more attention to artists working in Savannah and the greater Southeast. For example, the museum purchased this work from the Thirteenth Annual Association of Georgia Artists exhibition. Mark Sheridan’s serene view of Savannah toward the west end of River Street reveals the city’s growth. The small, dark wooden structures in the foreground contrast the smokestacks and twinkling lights on the skyline.Subject MatterSavannah River, River Street, Savannah, Georgia, United States of America
