The center of this plate exemplifies naturalism, since it represents the grazing goats and their landscape in detail. However, the flowers surrounding the rim are conventionalized, or shown with fewer details, flat, and with strong outlines. Many champions of this style took inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints, as also seen in the tight curves of the vines.
