The woman in the center holds the beginnings of the garland in her lap. She and the woman on the left seem to look to the woman on the right for her approval, as the woman on the left also places a large flower on top of her head. These women may be the Graces of ancient Greek and Roman mythology. They traditionally were associated with beauty, springtime, fertility, and flowers, and they are often depicted in art wearing flower crowns or holding garlands. Text written for the exhibition 'Lingua Flora,' on view from June 21–September 8, 2024.
