The dressing table contains two small drawers supporting the mirror columns, three drawers in the table, two short and one long, all with wooden knobs. The legs are formed from Ionic columns supported by a stretcher shelf. This piece was purchased by a member of the Owens family from its maker in Philadelphia, probably for the house where it still resides. At the time of manufacture, oceangoing steamboats maintained regular commercial shipping and passenger routes from Eastern coastal ports such as New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Charleston, and Savannah.
