Thomas drew these camellias from direct observations of the winter-blooming shrubs in friends’ gardens. She followed a format taken by many botanical illustrators, placing detailed samples of a plant against a black background to accentuate the colors of the plants’ flowers and foliage. The title of this work specifies the variety “Pink Perfection”; there are tens of thousands of named varieties of camellias known today. Text written for 'Lingua Flora,' on view from June 21–September 8, 2024.
