He was granted artistic license to take the photographs that interested him most, ultimately creating a story of dichotomies between a more traditional, reserved Britain still interested in the hierarchies of class structure and another more modern country emerging from years of tumultuous war to embrace social changes. The photographs ran 22 full pages under the headline, “Seeing Ourselves as an American Sees Us: A Picture Essay on Britain.” Text written for 'Bruce Davidson: Face to Face' on view February 4, 2022 - May 1, 2022.
