The white walls behind the bird denote an artificial environment like that of a portrait studio and lead the viewer to question the bird’s environment. The subject is in fact a taxidermied owl that speaks to Horn’s other works, which often consider humanity’s need to control nature. Horn currently lives and works in New York City and shows her work internationally. She has had solo exhibitions at the Dia Center for the Arts, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
