Early in his career, Ahn transitioned from making drawings and paintings of abstract forms set within three-dimensional spaces to the creation of physical boxes in which cubes and cylinders were layered between mirrors. Ahn's Forked Series #41 (White & Blue) is a geometric composition of fluorescent lights crossed in front of differently positioned mirrors to suggest space arcing in four directions. Influenced by Zen Buddhism, Ahn's meticulous and mesmerizing works draw the viewer into calm, endless spaces, providing otherworldly experiences that connect to the spiritual as well as the history and language of abstract art.
