The woman seems to stare into the fire in front of her, one hand resting on a closed book in her lap. Watkins further adds to the work’s calm atmosphere by harmonizing blues and greens in the textiles and ceramics. The American artist studied in New York at the Art Students League and Paris at the Académie Vitti. She eventually returned to the United States and settled in Virginia.
