He did not conduct business for long in the city. The following year, he closed shop, and by 1799 was documented continuing his business in Utica, New York. The relatively simple style of this spoon reflects the general preference for more geometric designs in the U.S. at the turn of the 19th century. Its simplicity also made it more accessible to more consumers, because it required less time and silver material than other styles.
