Thomas Whartenby, (Philadelphia, c.1788-1861) active 1811-1852. Apprenticed to Samuel Richards, Jr. 1802; he had his own shop by 1811. Partnership with Peter Bumm 1816-1818 (Whartenby & Bumm). From 1847 through 1852, the firm, which included his son and various others, was known as Whartenby & Company.
