Charles-François DaubignyFrench, 1817 - 1878

Daubigny, a pupil of his father Edme-François Daubigny, was educated in the classic tradition. He later turned to the new realism of the Barbizon School, with which he associated himself in the early forties. Success came soon after his first exhibition in 1838. He was the most modern and perhaps the most sensitive of the French Barbizon School. Notable for his direct influence on Impressionists through Monet. He started as an illustrator, then a landscape etcher, than a landscape painter.
