Maria Regnier (1901-1994), a Hungarian-born silversmith whose work is marked by its sleek minimalist beauty, came to America in 1921 and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. She maintained a thriving studio practice combining modern style and handcrafted techniques in jewelry and metal housewares beginning in the 1930s in St. Louis and then in other US cities such as Savannah, where she lived and worked from 1957-1961.
