Lila Marguerite CabanissAmerican, 1885 - 1969

Lila Marguerite Cabaniss, a charter member of the Savannah Art Club, is noted for bringing art to the public school system in Chatham County, beginning with an art curriculum she developed in 1915. Cabaniss was a member of the Association of Georgia Artists and studied at Columbia University, University of Georgia, University of Virginia, New York School of Normal Arts, and Art Students League of New York. She exhibited her work at the Telfair Academy, with the Southern States Art League, and participated in Philadelphia’s sesquicentennial celebration. [Cyndi Sommers, Asst. Curator]
