Kirk is most famous for repoussé decorations, this ewer featuring small cottages set among flowers and ferns on a matte ground. The angular handle topped by a ram's head is another favorite Kirk motif. Inscribed with the Owens crest of a rampant lion, and the monogram "GWO", the ewer is one of a pair originally owned by George Welshman Owens (1786 - 1856), who purchased the house now known as the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters in 1830.
