Tricked aboard a vessel at the Savannah waterfront as a child in the 1882, Golding spent decades at sea before returning home. His nautical drawings include sailing vessels, and scenes of exotic ports he claimed to have visited during his 50 years as a sailor. Here Golding depicts the tugboat William F. McCauley, in one of only a few known images by the artist to depict the Savannah Riverfront. Golding includes downtown landmarks such as the Savannah Morning News building on Bay Street. Built in 1894, the McCauley was based in Savannah and commissioned by the U.S. Navy during World War I.
