In the Telfair’s untitled sand-cast sculpture, Vallien constructs a ship form. The artist sparks the imagination of the viewer with glimpses of elements hidden within the ice-blue structure, such as the image of a human torso with outstretched arms, a ladder, and other non-descript items floating and captured amongst the frozen glass. Vallien studied life drawing and ceramics at the Konstfack School of Arts, Crafts and Design and the School for Advanced Industrial Design in Sweden. He worked as a designer for a ceramic factory in California for a short time, but returned to Sweden to work as a designer at the Afors Glass Factory, now part of Kosta Boda AB, where Vallien designs and creates production and art glass.
