His work presented him with the opportunity to photograph some of the brightest stars of the art world and the entertainment industry; these stark, intensely personal portraits earned Avedon a name in portrait photography and are distinguished by their minimalist presentation. Avedon’s portrait of artist Roy Lichtenstein is a characteristic example of the photographer’s style of portraiture. The subject is brightly lit, standing in front of the simplest of white backgrounds.
