Best known for his popular 1923 literary phenomenon The Prophet, Gibran earned international recognition as a novelist, poet, essayist, and artist. His visual art was inspired by a myriad of sources, including the symbolism of his peer Arthur B. Davies, the sensuality of the British Pre-Raphaelites, and the unmixed color of J.M.W. Turner. Telfair Museums owns nearly 100 paintings and drawings by Gibran, the largest collection of his visual art in the United States.
