The center of this plate exemplifies naturalism, since it represents the mountain lion and its rocky landscape in detail. However, the flowers surrounding the rim are conventionalized, or shown with fewer details, flat, and with strong outlines. Many champions of this style took inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints.
