The center of this plate exemplifies naturalism, since it represents the goats and their landscape in detail. However, the sweet peas surrounding the rim are conventionalized, or shown with fewer details, flat, and with strong outlines. Many champions of this style took inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints, as also seen in the vines' whiplash curves.
