In addition to the newsworthy fight for equal rights, Davidson's photographs showed the overpowering impact of segregation on daily life across the United States. Here, he captures a woman looking out of her New York City apartment, elbows resting on an American flag draped through the open window. He frequently revealed the difference between perceptions of the American Dream and the reality of that struggle for many individuals.
