The excellently-crafted blown Bird Vase and Artichoke Jar typify the quality of David Levi’s glass sculptures. Levi’s interest in form, saturated colors and whimsy make his pieces favorites among collectors and admirers of art. The crisp, clean shapes and familiar iconography entice the viewer to gaze a little longer— to question the conversation between the two birds and ponder the significance of the artichoke. David Levi received a B.F.A. in ceramics at Washington University in St. Louis and trained with designer Ann Warff and master glassblowers Jan-Erik Ritzman and Sven-Ake Carlson in Sweden in 1985. Levi served as an engineer in the final years of Steuben Glass and presently owns a production factory, IBEX Glass Studio in Washington, and set up a studio in California.
