H. Dibble (1812-1860). D. B. Nichols employed Dibble from at least 1833 until he bought out Nichols’ shop in 1840. Dibble partnered with Pulaski Jacks from 1841 until 1842 before heading his own venture from 1842 until 1843. During this time, he was appointed Keeper of the City Clock. He turned over management of his business to Thomas T. Wilmot in 1843. Dibble operated as a merchant in Savannah and Columbus, Georgia through the 1840s and 1850s. He enslaved numerous laborers, including at a rural location in Chatham County. Dibble is buried in Laurel Grove South Cemetery in Savannah. The inscriptions on the cup’s side likely mark the cup’s passing from one generation to the next, but the owners have not been identified: GW MC / 1843 / R.H.C. / 1849 / EHW / 1874.
