The main purpose of the organization is to book and promote professional wrestling events throughout the world.
Wrestlers come to the organization from all over the country. To be booked through the Capitol Wrestling Corporation, one must be a professional wrestler. The average age of a wrestler is about thirty-one.
The group is financially sustained by the fees and commissions from booking and promoting professional wrestling activities.
The organization was started in 1961 in Washington, D.C.
In addition to its regular wrestling events, the organization does benefits for such institutions as schools and orphanages. Famous wrestlers who have been booked through Capitol Wrestling are Bruno Sammartino, Ivan Putski, Andre the Giant, Ivan Koloff and Guerilla Monsoon. The most famous bout was in 1964, when Bruno Sammartino wrestled Guerilla Monsoon for 1 hour and 22 minutes without a single fall. Bruno Sammartino, Capitol Wrestling’s most famous box-office success, is known for his back breaker and bear hug.
