This international organization meets in different cities all over the world to hold muscle-and body-building shows and events. They also hold special body-building dinners.
The purpose of the group is to promote physical fitness throughout the world and to sponsor physical-fitness contests.
In order to join the organization, applicants are asked to write for an application.
Members pay $8 for membership and for a subscription to the organization magazine, Muscle Training Illustrated. The organization is also helped through Dan Lurie’s financial contributions. The World Body Building Guild is a non-profit organization.
It was started twelve years ago by Dan Lurie, who has been in the physical-fitness business for thirty-five years.
The organization sponsors the following annual contests: Mr. World, Pro Mr. America, Miss Body Beautiful U.S.A., and Teenage Mr. America. It holds a Mr. International contest in Mexico and a Mr. Canada and Mr. North America contest in Canada. Other contests take place in Greece, Italy, Brazil, and England.
It also grants a Sexiest Man of the Year Award (Burt Reynolds last year; Robert Redford this year)-and a Sexiest Woman of the Century Award which was given to Mae West.
Famous past members are Steve Reeves, Joe Bonomo, Rich Park, Senator Jacob Javits, and Charles Atlas.
